Review of Parameter Estimation Techniques for Time-Varying Autoregressive Models of Biomedical Signals

چکیده
Biomedical signals are non-stationary and a research topic of practical interest as the signal has time varying statistics. The problem of time varying is usually circumvented by assuming local stationary over a short time interval, where stationary techniques are applied. However, features extracted from these methods are not always suitable and methods for non-stationary process are needed. Time varying signals are more accurately represented by time frequency methods and received most attention recently. Among the time frequency methods, parametric modeling such as TVAR has been promising over nonparametric methods with improved resolutions and able to trace strong non-stationary signal. Despite the success of TVAR in various applications it has drawbacks. This paper presents an extensive review on TVAR modelling techniques. Different approaches for TVAR modeling is presented and outlined. Principles, advantages, disadvantages of those techniques are presented concisely. And finally a new direction has been suggested briefly.

Prediction of Above-elbow Motions in Amputees, based on Electromyographic(EMG) Signals, Using Nonlinear Autoregressive Exogenous (NARX) Model
Introduction In order to improve the quality of life of amputees, biomechatronic researchers and biomedical engineers have been trying to use a combination of various techniques to provide suitable rehabilitation systems. Diverse biomedical signals, acquired from a specialized organ or cell system, e.g., the nervous system, are the driving force for the whole system. Electromyography(EMG), as a...
متن کاملModeling and Forecasting Iranian Inflation with Time Varying BVAR Models
This paper investigates the forecasting performance of different time-varying BVAR models for Iranian inflation. Forecast accuracy of a BVAR model with Litterman’s prior compared with a time-varying BVAR model (a version introduced by Doan et al., 1984); and a modified time-varying BVAR model, where the autoregressive coefficients are held constant and only the deterministic components are allo...
متن کاملSignal Prediction by Layered Feed - Forward Neural Network (RESEARCH NOTE).
In this paper a nonparametric neural network (NN) technique for prediction of future values of a signal based on its past history is presented. This approach bypasses modeling, identification, and parameter estimation phases that are required by conventional parametric techniques. A multi-layer feed forward NN is employed. It develops an internal model of the signal through a training operation...
متن کاملDissertation Time - Frequency - Autoregressive - Moving - Average Modeling of Nonstationary Processes
This thesis introduces time-frequency-autoregressive-moving-average (TFARMA) models for underspread nonstationary stochastic processes (i.e., nonstationary processes with rapidly decaying TF correlations). TFARMAmodels are parsimonious as well as physically intuitive and meaningful because they are formulated in terms of time shifts (delays) and Doppler frequency shifts. They are a subclass of ...

Varying coefficient Models are among the most important tools for discovering the dynamic patterns when a fixed pattern does not fit adequately well on the data, due to existing diverse temporal or local patterns. These models are natural extensions of classical parametric models that have achieved great popularity in data analysis with good interpretability. The high flexibility and interpretab...
